Another Nonsense Reel!!!!

This time, for our (Ben and I) films from our MPV375: Directing & Screenwriting class and a film that I helped my friend Andrew on, Love Shaft, from his MPV306: Directing the Story class that was filmed during the same time these were filmed. I just figured to just throw in those bloopers with these. Since there were so many films, and so much film filming each one, there's a lot of bloopers and just us goofing around in this one. I think I included about 95% of every single blooper. Well, I love these because they're so much fun, and I hope you do too!

Film: My Best Friend's A Girl

Well, my best friend is a girl, but that's not what the film is about.

Our last film assignment of MPV375: Directing and Screenwriting is now online. It's from the opening of Ben's script that he was writing in the class.
 We did really great on this one. I got some pretty cool shots and the performance of the kids were pretty good. Ben did an awesome job directing, as always, this time with the help of his fiancée Becky who was wonderful with the kids. Thanks to the families who provided their homes as our locations and everyone else who helped out. It came out great!

Film: Sex, Lies, & Videotape

For our fifth video project this session (only one more to go), we did a scene from Sex, Lies, & Videotape, which has now been added to the Films section.

There's a great feeling that I get when the lights come back on after a screening and our teacher goes up to the podium carrying her notes with a huge smile on her face. And guess what? We were best in class this time! Yay! That made us very happy :) Filming went really smoothly, although we did end up being two hours behind. Editing went smoothly and I didn't have to do it all night (got it all done by 2 AM). Everything was great with making this film.

I think this is our best one yet. Let me know what you think!

Film: Nina Takes A Lover

My third blocking assignment for my Screenwriting and Directing class at Brooks has now been added to the Films section of this site. I'm really surprised how well this came out. For one, we shot this Monday night (the assignment was due the next day at 10:15 am). Then our main actor bailed out on us at the time we were suppose to film since he was filming The Young and the Restless. We seriously thought we were just going to take zeroes at that point, but then Ben stepped in and played the part of the photographer. And I think he did really well given the circumstances. And the video was well received by the class too.

Film: I'm Asking For A Divorce

I've added my second blocking assignment from my Directing and Screenwriting class at Brooks Institute of Photography to the Films section of the site. This time, we had to do a whole entire scene all in one master shot.

This one is that it didn't come out so well, mostly in part of myself with my all-over-the-place camera moves. I was trying to do something a bit different with the cinematography, hoping to stay close and keep the camera moving, but as still and unnoticeable as possible, while keeping focus on what's important in the story. Apparently, it was more difficult than I imagined and it came out like this.

Looking past my mistakes, Ben (the director) and the actors did an awesome job. Steven was awesome with sound and did the best he could with all the outside noise going on around us. And Sammy, as usual, was great and offered great help and some really great ideas. Thanks to you all!

I helped a friend of mine, Andrew, film his first MPV306 (Directing the Story) project a few weeks back. The whole assignment involved a situation where two people are staring at each other or something like that. We ended up filming the whole thing guerilla style in a hotel in Woodland Hills. It was pretty fun actually.

Film: Every 15 Minutes 2007

I was asked to do Canyon's recent Every 15 Minutes event and I jumped at the offer mainly because the first event was my first real Canyon Studios film I worked on, I had a ton of fun making it, and it was the first project that I worked with Amanda and Mandi and the rest of the Canyon Studios team. Simply, it was a memorable fun experience. Staying at Canyon all that evening was a blast for me. I figured it would be nice to do it all over again.

And this time, it was. I got to work with all new people, with the exception of Amanda, but she mainly filmed and wasn't in the room most of the time. I had a fun time hanging out with the new crew and staying up until 6 am getting it done. Fun time overall, even if I was beyond tired and frustrated with the video at times. I think it came out pretty well, what do you think?

Film: Have A Happy Sandwich!

My best friend Amanda came up with the idea to do this contest she heard about called Have A Happy Sandwich where we would make an advertisement showing how fun a grilled cheese sandwich made with Kraft Singles can be. So Amanda and I talked and tried to come up with some ideas. She then presented me with the idea of having a grilled cheese sandwich be her best friend and them having a fun day at the park together. In one scene, we would have them having a picnic where she would end up bringing grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch and end up eating her best friend because she craves for more after she finishes her own. So we decided one day to go film it, and we did, and it was so much fun! We ended up making four little 10-15 seconds advertisements. And here they are for your enjoyment:

We had to do a camera test for my Production & Lighting class at Brooks. It was to basically play around with the camera, get to know it, have fun, and introduce the class to the film crew for this session's film (Which is currently titled Bully).

I liked the idea. I thought it was great, even if I wasn't so crazy that I had to be in it, let alone what I had to do.

And don't get me started on the production name, which I also hope we don't ever use and it was just for fun for this video.

Film: Not Again

For the past few weeks, I've been working on my first 16mm film (On a Bolex) called Not Again (formerly PB & J). Pretty interesting experience even though, sadly, I never really got to play with the darn thing. Oh well.

But interesting experience nonetheless.

I'm still working on the final cut (well, actually right now, the director and others are doing some sound design and color correcting. I'm pretty much done besides sending it off to DVD). Hopefully that'll be up sometime within the next week. But in the meantime, and to give a sneak peak, here's a piece that I call Nonsense which is basically a bunch of the other stuff that we didn't end up using, like bloopers, out-takes, goofing around, slates, etc.

And I'm in it too.

UPDATE 8/31/07:
I added the final cuts to the Films section. The final cut got it's screening yesterday and it was pretty good. On the negative side, there were still issues with the story (ever since we screened the rough cut), but we really couldn't do much in the final cut to fix that in the time we had. Also, Ben did all these SFX for the film that we didn't end up using because they didn't match very well, were very quiet, and plus the music carried the film pretty well. So we decided not to incorporate them in (Although we did feel bad that we had to scrap Ben's work).

Anyways, it's up. It's done. It's break week for me. Yay. Time to relax before starting a new film next session.

I wasn’t so happy with the rough cut, wasn’t feeling good and no mood to really edit then, but I think the final cut came out well. Let me know what you think.

Sound design was a pain for the final edit since most of it was unusable or not available. Most of the sound in there is from other sources, such as other clips or sound effects. Also, the credits look awkward in wide screen, but in full screen there’s more room towards the top and bottom.

Also, a big thanks to Nate for doing the graphic design for the film.
